Reclaim Your Backyard: Expert Mosquito Control Services by Inspect Pest Control

There's a certain kind of frustration that comes with walking back inside five minutes after you sat down outside. You sprayed yourself down, lit the citronella candle, and still got eaten alive. Mosquitoes in North Jersey are relentless — and a can of Off! isn't going to cut it.

At Inspect Pest Control, we run a seasonal mosquito program built around two things most companies skip: treating the mosquitoes you can see and going after the ones you can't.

Why Most Mosquito Treatments Fall Short

Here's the problem with a standard spray-and-go service: it handles the adult mosquitoes resting in your shrubs right now, but it does nothing about the eggs already sitting in standing water throughout your yard. Those eggs hatch in days. Two weeks after a treatment, you're right back where you started — and wondering why you paid for it.

We take a different approach.

Our Two-Layer Mosquito Control Program

Layer 1: Barrier Spray

Our technicians apply a residual barrier spray to the places mosquitoes actually spend their day — the undersides of leaves, ornamental shrubs, dense grasses, shaded fence lines, and wooded edges of your property. This drops active adult populations fast and leaves a residual that keeps working between visits. Most customers notice a real difference within the first day or two.

Layer 2: In2Care® Mosquito Stations

This is where things get interesting. Mosquitoes breed in absurdly small amounts of water. A bottle cap. A clogged downspout. A low spot in a tarp. No spray reaches all of those places — but In2Care stations don't need to.

When a female mosquito enters an In2Care station looking for a place to lay eggs, a slow-killing larvicide and an adulticide coat her body. She then flies out and carries the larvicide to every other breeding site she visits — contaminating areas that no applicator could find or treat — before dying within 6 to 12 days. She does the work for us.

The active ingredients are Pyriproxyfen, an insect growth regulator that disrupts mosquito development and reproduction, and Beauveria bassiana, a naturally occurring fungus that shortens adult mosquito lifespan and stops disease transmission. Both are highly targeted — not toxic to birds or mammals, and designed to leave pollinators undisturbed.

The stations run continuously between our visits, around the clock. The barrier spray handles this generation. The In2Care stations handle the next one.

Prefer an Organic Option? We've Got You Covered.

If you'd rather skip traditional chemical treatments, we offer EcoVia — an EPA-exempt, plant-based barrier spray — as a direct swap for customers who prefer it. EcoVia uses botanical active ingredients to knock down and repel mosquitoes with the same targeted application approach, making it a strong fit for households with young kids, pets, or anyone who simply wants a lower-impact option. Just let us know when you reach out and we'll build your program around it. Same seasonal structure, same In2Care stations — just a greener barrier.

What the Seasonal Program Looks Like

Mosquito control in New Jersey isn't a one-and-done situation. Pressure builds through the spring, peaks hard in July and August, and stays active well into fall. A single treatment fades. A program keeps the protection consistent.

Our seasonal program runs April through October, with recurring visits scheduled throughout. Each visit includes a fresh barrier spray and In2Care station servicing — the stations need a refill every four to six weeks to stay active.

Every visit includes:

  • Barrier spray treatment to vegetation, shrubs, and resting areas around the perimeter
  • In2Care station inspection and refill service
  • A quick walk of the property for any new standing water or conducive conditions
  • Any recommendations for what you can do between visits to keep pressure down

Is It Safe for Kids and Pets?

We get this question a lot, and it's a fair one. Here's the straight answer: yes, with standard post-treatment dry time.

We ask that people and pets stay off treated areas for about 30 to 45 minutes after application — enough time for everything to dry. After that, the yard is back to normal.

The In2Care stations use a biological fungus and an insect growth regulator — neither of which is toxic to birds, mammals, or people when used according to label directions. The stations have twist-on lids that require deliberate effort to open, and we position them in shaded, vegetated spots away from play areas and foot traffic.

Mosquito Season in North Jersey — What You're Actually Dealing With

New Jersey's mix of wetlands, mature tree canopy, and suburban landscaping makes it genuinely good mosquito habitat. The two species you're most likely dealing with — Aedes and Culex — are the primary vectors for West Nile virus in our region, with Aedes also responsible for Zika and Dengue transmission.

Rainfall makes a significant difference in how bad any given summer gets. A wet spring or a few heavy storms in July can cause a rapid spike in activity as dormant eggs hatch all at once. A program with recurring visits is built to handle those spikes. A single treatment isn't.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start mosquito treatments in New Jersey? April is the sweet spot. Starting before the peak gives the In2Care stations time to establish and lets the barrier program get ahead of the population rather than chasing it. Waiting until you're already miserable in July means a slower start to relief.

How long does the barrier spray last? Typically three to four weeks under normal conditions. Rain and thick foliage can shorten that window, which is why the program schedules recurring visits rather than leaving you to call when it wears off.

What do I need to do before a treatment visit? Unlock your gate so we can access the backyard, and plan for about 30 to 45 minutes of keeping people and pets inside while everything dries. If you have a fish pond or water feature, let us know and we'll work around it.

Will treatments affect my garden or pollinators? We apply the barrier spray to resting vegetation, not flowering plants, and we avoid areas where pollinators are actively foraging. In2Care's active ingredients have a strong safety profile for beneficial insects — the stations specifically target egg-laying female mosquitoes, not the broader insect population.

Do you treat for ticks too? Yes — tick control is included in the seasonal program. Many of the harborage areas overlap, so combining both treatments at the same visit is efficient.

Mosquitoes in North Jersey — Know What You're Dealing With

New Jersey has over 60 recorded mosquito species New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, but most North Jersey homeowners are dealing with the same three or four consistently. Here's what they are and why they matter:

Asian Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus) — The one biting you at noon on a Saturday. Recognizable by its black and white striped legs, it bites aggressively during the day and breeds in any container holding water — a bottle cap, a clogged gutter, a forgotten pot. It's now prevalent in 19 of New Jersey's 21 counties PubMed and is the primary species the In2Care station was designed to target.

Northern House Mosquito (Culex pipiens) — Most active in the evening and overnight, breeding in stagnant water like clogged gutters, storm drains, and ornamental ponds. The main vector for West Nile virus in our region and the reason you get eaten alive the moment you step outside after dinner.

Inland Floodwater Mosquito (Aedes vexans) — Breeds in flood-prone areas and spikes significantly after heavy rain. If mosquito pressure shoots up the week after a storm, this is usually why. North Jersey's wetlands and low-lying lots make it a seasonal staple.

Asian Bush Mosquito (Aedes japonicus) — First detected in New York and New Jersey in 1998 Moyer, now widespread through Essex and Morris Counties. A potential vector for West Nile and Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and increasingly common in suburban yards.

Knowing which species are active matters because their behavior differs — when they bite, where they breed, how far they travel. A program that accounts for daytime Aedes pressure and evening Culex activity keeps your yard covered around the clock.
